necessary money by the issue of Chinese Government Railway

Bonds in Europe or America, The rate of interest, terms of a

amortisation and the price of issue to be agreed hereafter.

Should Mesars Pearson or the Chinese Government

so desire and the other party so agree, the mid railways might be constructed and equipped at some fixed price per mile.

Messrs. Pearson will have the right to import

૧ the necessary materials for the making, construction, quipment and working of such railways as, in fact, they do construct, free of Customs duty and likin duty, and shall be accorded by the Chinese authorities all the protection and assistance that may be necessary for the peaceful construction and working of the railway line or lines.

The terms for working such railways as constructed and opened for traffic shall be those now in use for other Chinese railways, with such necessary improvements as the con- ditions of today require.

I also empower Hesars. S.Pearson & Son (Contract- ing Department) Limited to make such further railways as may be determined as to location and length in agreement with the Chinese authorities on terms similar to the above, and aggregating one thousand miles, in addition to the Nanchang-Canton and Canton-Swatow lines.
